1) During a heart attack, blood supply to a part of heart stops because of blockage in the supplying artery. This may lead to complete stoppage of heart contractions, cardiac arrest and death. But most of the times, heart attacks would not lead to death. Inactivity is the most common risk factor for developing heart disease followed by being overweight, high blood pressure, smoking and diabetes.
2) Men tend to develop heart problems at a younger age as compared to women but after menopause women catch up and eventually women have a higher chance of dying from heart attacks as compared to men. Heart problems are now the no 1 killer of women in developed countries, far more than even all the cancers put together.
3) If you are having chest pain or discomfort, or pain in jaw along with nausea or sweating / discomfort in upper part of tummy, you should immediately visit emergency room of an equipped hospital. It is better to be cautious and seek help early rather than wait and suffer permanent damage. Draw immediate attention to who so ever is around you regarding your situation.
4) Sometimes, after shocking or distressful news, there could be a sudden rush of adrenaline in the body which narrows down the blood vessels and may stun the heart temporarily producing heart attack like symptoms. The good news is heart usually recovers fast from this without any residual damage.
5) The old advice of waiting for three months for resuming sexual activity after a heart attack is not true. One can start whenever the couple is physically and emotionally up to it. Check with your doctor if you have any concerns regarding this.
