Yes, abortion can be done legally in India provided certain pre- conditions of patient, doctor and place are met. Abortion can only be performed up to 20 weeks
from the day of your last menstrual period (LMP) in India. Hospitals or clinics may be certified to perform abortion only for the first 12 weeks or all through twenty weeks. Beyond 12 weeks of pregnancy the need for abortion has to be first certified by two gynaecologists instead of one and then one can proceed for the actual procedure.
