Consideration

Sex is a great feeling for everyone, whether it’s a male or a female. However, this feeling turns into a nightmare if you experience pain and soreness for hours after sex.

There can be many reasons for the pain and soreness after sex such as insufficient lubrication or lack of lubrication. Insufficient lubrication can cause irritation, redness and soreness in the vaginal area. Menopause can result in reduced oestrogen levels leading to decreased lubrication during sexual activity. This causes irritation and soreness of vaginal tissues both during and after sex. Having a long and energetic session of sex can also lead to soreness in the vaginal area.

Other reasons for vaginal soreness after sex may include:

  • Insufficient foreplay or sexual stimulation of females by their partners
  • Eating disorders, which can cause hormonal changes and vaginal dryness
  • Use of birth control pills or contraceptives
  • Use of certain scented hygiene products
  • Allergy to certain birth control products, such as condoms.

You should always consult your physician in case the soreness does not go away hours after sex, or if you have soreness every time after having sex.

Some other common symptoms that may accompany vaginal soreness include:

  • Burning sensation in the vagina
  • Pain in the pelvic floor
  • Emotional disturbances because of the pain
  • Pain in the tailbone (coccydynia)
